The Goodwood revival - a step back into time
The Goodwood Revival is the most popular historic motor racing meeting in the world, and the only one recreating the golden era of race history; the 50's and 60's. The Goodwood Revival offers you outstanding wheel-to-wheel racing on the original Goodwood circuit, uninfluenced by the modern world of racing. The Revival relives the glorious days of Goodwood Motor Circuit as it was at its prime, a time during which racing of all kinds was hosted, including the celebrated Tourist Trophy sports car race, the famous Goodwood Nine Hours race and Formula One.
The Goodwood Revival stages a historic race weekend for the type motorcycles and cars that would have competed at Goodwood during 1948-1966. Thundering sports and GT cars, as well as historic saloon cars are driven by famous racers from motor sport past and present. Giacomo Agostini, John Surtees, Gerhard Berger, Phil Hill, Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss, Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Derek Bell, Johnny Herbert and Wayne Gardner have all taken part at the Revival.
But the Revival is not simply a race series for olden day cars. It gives visitors the chance to step back into time and experience motor racing completely as it used to be. The circuit is restored and unchanged from what it was in its heyday, and everything on site echoes exactly the look and feel of the 50's and 60's. Most visitors wear period clothing for the duration of the event, and modern vehicles are not allowed to enter the perimeters of the circuit for the weekend of the Revival. The past is brought back to life with theatrical sets, and aviation history is celebrated with breathtaking aerial manoeuvres in the skies above the former WWII aerodrome. A rare selection of pre-1966 aircraft can be viewed at the Freddie March 'spirit of Aviation' static display.
